Itinerary
The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre (previously De Wildt Cheetah Centre) had its beginning due to Ann van Dyk’s passion for stray and injured animals on the farm. Then, in October 1968, a local farmer offered her two cheetah cubs, which she accepted.
Ann and her eldest brother, Godfrey, offered to the National Zoological Gardens of South Africa in Pretoria management the use of their facilities for captive breeding programs. This offer was accepted and the centre officially opened on 16 April 1971.
The Centre has recently been renamed The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who has dedicated her life to saving rare and endangered species.
In addition to the Cheetah breeding the centre also established successful breeding programs for several other rare and endangered species, including Wild Dog, Brown Hyena and the Cape Vulture.
The Cheetah Tour includes a reception & briefing, before guests depart on a guided tour to various animal encloses where among others Cheetah, Wild Dogs, Brown Hyena & Caracal are fed. The tour offers excellent opportunities to take close-up photos of the animals, form the safety of the vehicle.
