Pilanesberg National Park
is the fourth largest park in South Africa. Set on 55 000 hectares of pristine unspoiled natural beauty, situated in the North West Province. The area is world famous geologically and its structure, termed the Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex’ was formed by volcanic eruptions some 1 200 million years ago.
The park borders with the entertainment complex Sun City and exists within the transition zone between the dry Kalahari and wetter Lowveld vegetation, commonly referred to as “Bushveld”. Unlike any other large park, unique overlaps of mammals, birds and vegetation occur because of this transition zone.
The creation of the Pilanesberg National Park is considered one of the most ambitious programmes of its kind to be undertaken anywhere in the world. The Operation Genesis, which involved the game-fencing of the reserve and the reintroduction of long-vanished species, began during the late 70’s. Including the re-introduction of many long-vanished species, the park now has in excess of 7 000 animals including 24 of the larger species. Also accommodatiog the Big Five (Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard & Rhino), Pilanesberg National Park offers the visitor virtually every mammal of southern Africa.

NB.: an additional R600 per vehicle for each pick-up/drop-off in Johannesburg/ORTambo Airport/Sandton. Lunch is not included.
You guide will pick you up from your hotel in Pretoria, or Johannesburg, or from the Oliver Tambo international airport in Johannesburg (you might wish to overnight in the 4 star Touraco Guesthouse in Pretoria).
The scenic drive to Pilanesberg takes about 2 hours. You’ll enter the park between 8:00 & 9:00, to start the exiting search for Africa’s Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino & Buffalo). At lunch we leave the Pilanesberg National Park for Sun City. In Sun City there is a wide range of restaurants for you to pick from (lunch is not included). After lunch you can explore the magic of the Sun City, the Valley of Waves or maybe the Casino to try your luck. We leave at approximately 15:00, in time to be back in Johannesburg/ Pretoria, or the airport at approximately 17:00 Included:
