Pilanesberg National Park:
The Pilanesberg National Park borders on the entertainment complex of Sun City. The park is 55.000 hectares in extent. It is almost perfectly circular because it comprises the area of a 1200 million years old volcano crater with a small lake in the centre. This very scenic terrain lies in the transition zone between Kalahari and Lowveld, and both types of vegetation are found here. In the Pilanesberg National Park today live virtually all the animal species of southern Africa, including, lions, elephants, white and black rhinos, buffaloes, leopards, zebras, hyenas, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles. Over 300 bird species were counted. The Pilanesberg National Park is a Malaria-free area.

Experience the all-time high of the Carlton panorama way above the bustling city streets. Experience the heartbeat of Soweto, the black township with its diversity of people and cultures. Drive past Diepkloof squatter’s camp and Valikazi Street with houses of Noble price winners Mandela and Tutu. Continue past Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the biggest in the Southern hemisphere. Visit the Hector Pertersen memorial & museum. When visiting the Apartheids Museum, embark on a journey of discovery of the racial segregation experienced by millions.
Pretoria City Tour & Cullinan Diamond Mine
Visit the Voortrekker Monument, Church Square, Melrose or Kruger House and the Union Buildings, home to the Presidents office, and delight in a panoramic view of the Jacaranda City.
A surface tour of the diamond mine where the famous Cullinan Diamond of over 3 000 carats was found. You can see the big hole, shaft end diamond room where a selection of uncut diamonds and replicas of famous diamonds are. A visit to the on-site Juwelry shop is included.
Cradle of Humankind (Combination of any 2 of Lion & Rhino Park or Lion Park/Sterkfontein Caves/Wonder Caves or Maropeng)
Rhino and Lion Park: Have a half day of game viewing with us. Animals to see are Lion, Wild dogs, Cheetah, Rhino, Zebra, Gemsbok, Haartebees-buck and other antelope.
PLEASE NOTE: Rhino & Lion Park and the Lion Park are two different entities.
Lion Park: A great day out, the Lion Park is situated near Lanseria Airport and Fourways, within easy reach of Johannesburg and Pretoria. The Lion Park is home to over 80 lions including the rare white lions and many other carnivores such as cheetah, wild dog, brown hyena, striped hyena, spotted hyena, black-backed jackal, side-striped jackal, and a wide variety of antelope which roam freely in the antelope area.
Guests have an opportunity to interact with some of the animals in the Cub World area which has a giraffe feeding platform that puts you at eye level with our tame resident giraffe creating a fun experience for all ages. Then there is the popular cub interaction which allows guests to touch the cubs and take photographs.
Strekfontein Caves: Accompany us on a tour of the cradle of man kind, the Sterkfontein Caves (a World Heritage site). The Sterkfontein Caves are the site of the discovery of the famous Mrs Ples. The caves comprise a series of caverns with many stalactites and stalagmites and a huge underground lake.
The Wonder Cave Is located about 2.5 km from the Kromdraai. The enormous cave chamber with a volume of 46 OOOm Is believed to be 2.2 million years old. This cave has the best example in the region of a relatively young taluscone (a few thousand years old) which helps us understand how the older caves in the area were filled in. Wonder Cave contains drip stone formations as beautiful as those in the Cango Caves. It also has a resident bat population. Hourly tours are conducted by on well-lit pathways where no crawling is necessary.
The Maropeng Centre: Within the visitor attraction lies an exciting 4-billion-year journey on an underground lake, through the elemental forces – water, air, fire and earth – dipping through waterfalls and real icebergs, into the eye of a storm, past erupting volcanoes and through the depths of the earth and emerging at the beginning of the world. From here, the journey continues through an experience highlighting the history of our world and humankind as a species, brought to life via audiovisual techniques, evocative sound effects, theme-park technology and theatrical displays. There are also real fossils on display at the visitor centre.
Programme
We depart on your Touraco Day Tour after a sumptous breakfast and a restful night at the 4-Star Touraco Guesthouse in Pretoria. On a Pilanesberg National Park Tour you’ll enjoy a packed breakfast upon entrance into the park, due to early departure times!
Ater the Full Day Tour you’ll be dropped off at Touraco Guesthouse again for your second night.
